RangeMax (MIMO)

MIMO (Multi-In, Multi-Out) is an advanced technology that uses multiple antennas to increase range and speeds. NETGEAR’s RangeMax™ products are based on “Smart” MIMO technology. It is Smart MIMO as the smart antennas constantly survey your home or office environment for physical barriers and interference and adjust the wireless signal to compensate for these performance inhibitors. For example, if you carry your laptop from the family room to the bedroom, RangeMax’ Smart MIMO automatically senses the change and adjusts the wireless signal to deliver you the fastest, clearest connection! Everyone will enjoy consistently high-speed connections, everywhere in your house – no drop-outs, and no dead spots.

Performance advantages:

  • When used with RangeMax client adapters, delivers the longest range of any wireless technology on the market
  • Improves performance of existing legacy 802.11b and 802.11g wireless devices up to 50%
  • Five 10/100 (1 internet, and 4 LAN) ports equipped with auto-sensing technology
  • Data speed of up to 108 Mbps*
  • MIMO whitepaper from NETGEAR partner Video54

VeriTest, the testing division of Lionbridge, tested the wireless network throughput performance and maximum range of NETGEAR's RangeMax Wireless Router and PC Card as compared to comparable Linksys and Belkin 802.11g MIMO wireless solutions. For a full report click here

Key Findings

The NETGEAR Wireless Router WPN824 and NETGEAR Wireless PC Card WPN511 combination generated the highest throughput numbers at all eight of the specific predetermined distances, as compared to the two other wireless configurations we tested.

The NETGEAR Wireless Router WPN824 and NETGEAR Wireless PC Card WPN511 combination exhibited the longest maximum range, as compared to the two other wireless configurations we tested.

Combined receive/send data throughput test results
For these tests, the figure shows that the NETGEAR Wireless Router WPN824 and NETGEAR Wireless PC Card WPN511 combination generated the highest throughput numbers at all of the predetermined distances tested as compared to the other two participating wireless configurations.

Maximum range test results
The maximum range testing consists of measuring the straight-line distance at which the wireless station under test can still connect to the wireless gateway. The figure shows the results, in feet, of the testing for each wireless configuration we tested. For these tests, higher maximum range numbers are better.
